MLB World Series is StubHub’s top-selling US event for 2019

Major League Baseball’s World Series, won this year by the Washington Nationals, was the top-selling US event for 2019 on ticket resale marketplace StubHub, according to the company’s recently released, fifth annual Year in Live Experiences report.

While the seven-game baseball championship series stood at the top of the list, football otherwise loomed large among StubHub’s ticket sales. Super Bowl LIII ranked No. 2, a year after the prior year’s iteration of that game topped StubHub’s rankings for 2018. College football then took the No. 8-10 slots with two Louisiana State University games and the last year’s College Football Championship Game between Alabama and Clemson.

That CFP title game fell from second among sports events on StubHub during 2018 to 10th for 2019.

Among all single-day events sold on StubHub during the year, regardless on genre, Super Bowl LIII topped that list and sports events took 11 of the company’s top 12 slots.

Game 5 of the National Basketball Association Finals in June between the Toronto Raptors and Golden State Warriors, meanwhile, became the highest-selling NBA game of all-time on StubHub.

“Every year brings a remarkable number of new historical moments and memories for live event fans,” said Jill Krimmel, general manager of sports for StubHub. “2019 had its standout moments in the World Series, NBA Finals, and Stanley Cup, featuring unexpected and storied teams driving some of the highest demand of the year.”

StubHub was acquired last month by European player Viagogo in a $4.05bn all-cash deal, with a closing slated for early next year.
