MLB launches esports league in China

Major League Baseball announced an esports tournament across Chongqing, Chengdu, Xi’an, Beijing, Hangzhou and Shanghai on their Weibo account.

The competition will run on their licenced console game “MLB The Show” for three months, and MLB will invite eight top Chinese esports teams to form the league.

According to reports on Sohu.com, the league will begin later in 2019. Shao Yinxin, director of marketing and media for MLB China, said: “By appealing to a younger demographic with games that they enjoy, this will help increase the penetration of baseball into their lives.”
