Italian football side Chievo Verona has added automotive brand Mitsubishi motors as its new main sponsor.
The deal will run until the end of the 2019-20 season. The company’s logo will be present on the front of the club’s shirt throughout its duration.
SportBusiness understands that the fee involved is between €150,000 ($167,000) and €200,000. This is bolstered by Mitsubishi providing a fleet of its cars to the Serie B club’s players and management staff.
In addition, Mitsubishi will be granted visibility via pitch-side LED advertising, across all club communication platforms and at its Bottagisio sports centre and Veronello hotel venues.
Chievo Verona also signed a main sponsor deal midway through last season with clothing company Mulish. Since its expiry at the end of the 2018-19 season, the most prominent brand on its shirt has often been Italian food manufacturer Paluani, who remains part of the club’s sponsorship portfolio in the tier below the main designation.
The agreement represents Mitsubishi’s first move into football sponsorship in Italy. Giuseppe Lovascio, general manager of Mitsubishi Motors Automobili Italia, said: ‘’This decision is part of a broader strategy that we have been undertaking for a few years that sees us engaged in sports contexts ranging from outdoor to team sports such as basketball, surfing and now finally football.’’
