Global esports company Misfits Gaming Group (MGG) has signed a sponsorship contract with digital personal finance brand SoFi.
The deal will grant SoFi the designation of main jersey patch sponsor across MGG’s properties in esports. This includes Misfits Gaming, which competes in Riot Games’ League of Legends European Championship (LEC) series.
It also extends to the role of presenting sponsor of forthcoming live events for Florida Mayhem, the team that competes in Activision Blizzard’s Overwatch League and Florida Mutineers, part of Activision-Blizzard’s Call of Duty League.
In addition, the two organisations will produce content which promotes messages around personal finance. This aligns with SoFi’s company mission to help over one million members achieve financial independence to realise their ambitions.
The brand is set to have a significant presence in sport sponsorship in the North American market, holding the naming rights contract to the future home of the NFL’s LA Rams and LA Chargers, which is due to open in July. Sofi secured a 20-year naming rights deal to the Los Angeles stadium, worth a reported $400m (€366.5m).
Ben Spoont, chief executive and co-founder of Misfits Gaming Group, said: “SoFi is a true industry innovator and their forward-thinking approach to personal finance is a natural fit for the tech driven esports industry.”
