The Australian city of Melbourne has been awarded hosting rights to this year’s World Swimming Championships (25m) after Fina, the global governing body for aquatic sports, removed the event from Kazan in Russia.

The Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre will stage the event from December 13-18, with more than 1,000 athletes set to compete. It will mark the first time that Melbourne has hosted the competition.
