Matchroom to stage new gymnastics showpiece in London

The multi-sport division of UK sports promotional company Matchroom Sport has launched a new gymnastics event that will debut at The O2 arena in London next year.

Matchroom Multi Sport has announced leading gymnastics stars Simone Biles and Max Whitlock as the first signings for The Superstars Of Gymnastics, which is set to take place on March 23.

American Biles (pictured), who won four gold medals at the 2016 summer Olympic Games, and Britain’s Whitlock, who claimed two golds in Rio de Janeiro, will be part of what Matchroom claims will be an exhibition of the very best talent in gymnastics.

Pay-television broadcaster Sky Sports has already secured rights to the event in the UK, with deals set to be signed with other networks around the world.

Matchroom Sport chairman Barry Hearn said: “The Superstars of Gymnastics is going to be something very special and something very big for the sport of gymnastics. We will be bringing superstars from around the world to London for a world-class showcase of this brilliant sport.

“With Simone and Max already on board and more big names to come, it is going to be something you simply won't want to miss.”
