Manchester’s Olympic bid rejected

“They (Manchester) will have to look elsewhere (to other events) than the Olympics,” the Minister for Sport, Richard Caborn said.

“Those are the rules laid down by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). They have made it clear that the only place they will contemplate a serious bid from is the capital city.”

Last month Jacques Rogge, the IOC’s president, said that London’s chances of hosting the Olympic Games in 2012 would be greatly enhanced if Manchester can prove that the country is able to organise a multi-sport event.
