The International Ski Federation (FIS) and International Olympic Committee are among those who have paid tribute to Gian Franco Kasper, the long-time president of the FIS, who has passed away at the age of 77.

The FIS said Kasper, who led the federation until his retirement little more than a month before the recent presidential elections on June 4, died on Friday evening.  Just days before this year’s International Ski Congress, which saw Johan Eliasch elected as the new FIS president, Kasper was admitted to hospital, where he remained until he passed away.
