Limelight turns to Hope to find mass participation event sponsors

The Limelight Sports agency has appointed Marc Hope Consulting/The Winning Tape, the consultancy set up by Marc Hope, to find sponsors for events including the London Duathlon and London Triathlon, Blenheim Triathlon and cycling’s Etape Caledonia in Scotland.

Limelight took over the running of the London Triathlon, Blenheim Triathlon and Etape Caledonia from IMG from 2019 onwards as the Endeavor-owned agency retreated from the UK’s mass participation event business.

The London-based Limelight has now turned to Hope to work on the sponsorship acquisition programme for its owned campaigns.

Hope left The Sports Consultancy at the end of last year after just under five years at the London-based agency and consultancy.

Through the tie-up between Limelight and his consultancy, he will report into James Robinson, Limelight Sports’ chief commercial officer.

Robinson said today (Monday): “We are delighted to have someone with so much experience and such a strong track record of generating income within Limelight’s core activities, running, cycling and swimming. At this key time in the development of the agency his experience will be invaluable in taking us to the next level.”

Hope (pictured) added: “There is huge growth and potential in participation sports events and an ever growing list of brands and companies are now looking to this sector to meet their targets and objectives in an increasingly health conscious world.”

Hope’s consultancy recently added Glasgow Airport as a national sponsor for the LGT World Men’s Curling Championship 2020, as reported by SportBusiness. Scottish Curling, the national governing body, appointed Marc Hope Consulting/The Winning Tape to source the national sponsors for the championships. The curling remit is one of various retained sponsorship rights projects currently being undertaken by Hope with select agencies and rights-holders.

Hope was recruited by The Sports Consultancy from SMAM, the Lagardère-owned Commonwealth Games sponsorship sales agency, in February 2015. He is best known for heading up The Sports Consultancy’s brokering of sponsorship deals in athletics. These included national partners and suppliers secured for London 2017, along with sponsors for major athletics events held in the UK and finding sponsorship partners for British Athletics.

Other projects headed up by Hope included the acquisition of sponsors for Scotland’s Commonwealth Games team, one of his various business activities at The Sports Consultancy north of the border.

Before joining SMAM in 2011, Hope was in charge of Fast Track’s rights marketing team, negotiating sponsorship deals on behalf of UK Athletics. He spent over a decade at the agency, during which time the agency was acquired by Chime Communications (in 2007).
