Lima 2019 has set its budget for the Pan American Games at $712m (€523.5m) and is targeting the completion of its major sports facilities before 2016.
The 18th edition of the multi-sport event will be held from July 26 to August 9, 2019, with next year’s Games set to take place in the Canadian city of Toronto. Peruvian Olympic Committee (COP) president, Jose Quiñones, said the capital city’s plans are already progressing well.
“We have committed to the Pan American Sports Organisation (PASO) to complete all major works before 2016, even when there are 65 months left for the start of the Games in Peru,” Quiñones said, according to Peruvian news agency Andina. “However, the athletes’ village is not included to be finished within this period.”
Lima was elected as host of the 2019 Games at PASO’s general assembly in October. Lima defeated bids from Ciudad Bolivar (Venezuela), La Punta (Argentina) and Santiago (Chile).
