Liga ACB, the top tier of Spanish basketball, has extended its exclusive official data partnership with Genius Sports Group.

Genius will continue to hold the exclusive rights to capture, manage and distribute data from matches in the Liga ACB on behalf of the league, supplying sports book operators world-wide in realtime through its betting arm, Betgenius.

Similar to Genius’ extension with basketball’s Euroleague at the start of 2020, the agreement will see Liga ACB adopt a more stringent data rights enforcement strategy, following on from launching its first ever rights enforcement programme this year.

Unauthorised data collectors will be removed form ACB Stadiums, helping to preserve the quality of the league’s data and maintain Genius exclusivity.

The partnership has been in place since the start of he 2016-17 season on an initial four-year deal, with the latest renewal described as “long-term”.

Joan M. Carreras, international development director at ACB, said: “We increasingly appreciate the importance of our competitions data and we take the choice of our data partner very seriously, so after the experience of previous seasons we are glad to establish a long-term partnership with Genius Sports. Its expertise with data management and its involvement in integrity are a guarantee for us in such sensitive matters.”

Genius has also secured a renewal with the Asociación de Clubes de Básquetbol (ADC), the governing body of the top basketball leagues in Argentina, in recent months.

Meanwhile, Liga ACB has also announced a partnership with Israel-based artificial intelligence technology company WSC Sports.

WSC’s AI-driven video production and distribution platform will generate automated highlights for both the league and its 19 member clubs to share on their social media channels.

WSC has previously delivered AI video solutions to boost fan engagement at the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), Korea’s K League and the Belgian Pro League.
