Prominent gaming operator FanDuel has signed an agreement with the New York Liberty to become an official partner of the Women’s National Basketball Association team.
The deal, marking the team’s first marquee-level partnership since 2018, will see FanDuel get prime placement of its logo on the Liberty’s home and away jerseys.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
“Teaming up with a leading gaming operator in the US allows us to reach new and existing fans who want to experience the very best of New York basketball both digitally and live events,” said Keia Clarke, Liberty chief operating officer.
FanDuel first created a daily fantasy game for the WNBA in 2017, and also holds a league-level partnership.
The WNBA, like all other major US sports properties, is suspended indefinitely due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Its 2020 season was originally due to start May 15. The league will hold its 2020 Draft on April 17, as originally scheduled, but it will use a virtual format. The Liberty will have the top overall selection.
“New York is an iconic sports town and the home of the FanDuel headquarters, so teaming up with the Liberty is an honor and a natural fit,” said Matt King, FanDuel Group chief executive.
