Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO), the body which organises and promotes the Tour de France, has confirmed that the cycling showpiece’s ‘Grand Départ’ will be held in Italy for the first time in 2024, with the news also marking the race’s first return to the country since 2011.

The announcement yesterday (Wednesday) evening came after initial reports concerning such an arrangement back in June. The 2024 Grand Départ intends to mark the centenary of Ottavio Bottecchia’s first Italian Tour win and will commence in Florence on June 29 as riders take on a 205km stage to Rimini.
