Kukri Sports has renewed as the official kit supplier of Team England for the third consecutive Commonwealth Games cycle.
The UK-based sports brand designed and produced Team England kit for the last two Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast 2018 and Glasgow 2014 and will now supply kit for the team’s home Games in Birmingham 2022.
Kukri will create kit for more than 600 athletes and officials from 19 different sports, including eight para sports. For the Gold Coast Games in 2018, Kukri produced 38,000 items of kit for Team England.
Paul Blanchard, chief executive of Commonwealth Games England, said the process of working with Kukri over the last two cycles had helped refine the kit with a focus on performance.
Blanchard said: “With a home Games, we know our kit has to be impactful and create a strong image of our Team England values but most importantly the athletes need to feel comfortable in what they perform in.”
The kit will be designed with input from 23 athletes from 17 sports, who took up Team England and Kukri’s invitation to take part in a virtual athlete panel this week.
Each national governing body that represents Team England athletes in Birmingham 2022 were invited to nominate up to two athletes to help design the kit.
Also joining in their capacity as board members, were the three athlete representatives, Aimee Willmott, Ama Agbeze and Ali Jawad, along with former Olympic gold medallist Denise Lewis, president of Commonwealth Games England.
Athletes were also involved in the kit design for both Glasgow 2014 and Gold Coast 2018, but more than double the number joined ahead of the 2022 Games kit design.
Kukri’s portfolio of sponsorships also includes kit supplier deals for Team Canada for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, rugby union clubs Leicester Tigers and Ulster Rugby, county cricket club Lancashire, and national teams for England Athletics, England Lacrosse and England Squash.
