Japanese energy company JXTG Nippon Oil & Energy Corporation has agreed a deal to become a supporting partner of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Torch Relay.
As part of the deal, JXTG, under its Eneos brand, will supply the gas for torches used at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
The relay will take place from August 13 to 25. In each leg, the torch will be carried by a group of three people meeting each other for the first time. The organisers say: “It is hoped that these encounters will prompt people to contemplate the meaning of diversity and come to realise the wide-ranging benefits of a fully inclusive society.”
The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games Torch Relay has a three-tier sponsorship programme, comprising Presenting Partners, Supporting Partners and Associating Partners. The other commercial partner announced to date is Presenting Parter Lixil, a water and housing products manufacturer.
JXTG is also a Gold Partner of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and is also supporting the Olympic Torch Relay.
Katsuyuki Ota, representative director, president of JXTG said in a press release: “As part of our efforts to promote diversity and inclusion, we have forged a deep connection with Paralympic sports through our support of sports associations for athletes with an impairment, as well as through our employee cheering squad and volunteer activities. As a Supporting Partner of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Torch Relay, we are honoured to have the opportunity to contribute to the development of a diverse society. Under the slogan “ENERGY for ALL,” we will energise the Paralympic Torch Relay to bring lasting inspiration to all of Japan.”
Yoshiro Mori, president of Tokyo 2020, said: “We are delighted to welcome JXTG as a Supporting Partner of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Torch Relay, following on directly from their support for the Olympic Torch Relay.”
