Jakarta named Badminton World Championships host

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has named Jakarta host of its 2015 World Championships.

The Indonesian capital beat the Chinese city of Kunshan in staging the event, which returns to Asia following the Championships going to Copenhagen next August. Another Chinese city, Dongguan, also received the nod to host the BWF Sudirman Cup 2015, while the BWF World Senior Championships will head to Helsingborg in Sweden.

BWF president Poul-Erik Hoyer said: “We have been impressed by the technically sound and competent bids that were presented earlier today. There is clearly significant experience among you in hosting events and in certain instances, specifically badminton events.”

Istora Senayan Stadium will host the 2015 World Championships.
