Ivory Coast to bid for Africa Cup of Nations

The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) has been given the green light by its government to bid for the hosting of the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019 or 2021.

The Ivory Coast last hosted the African showcase in 1984, but its bid to host the 2006 event, while the country was in political turmoil, was overlooked with hosting rights awarded to Egypt.

In light of the proposed bid, the government has also pledged to develop facilities that will be used during the tournament.

A government statement read: "[The state] intends to create the conditions to host the continental competition by improving the supply of infrastructure.”
