Indian Premier League governing body council chairman Ranjib Biswal has left the door ajar for the 2014 edition of the Twenty20 cricket tournament to be moved, according to the Indian Express newspaper.
There has been increasing speculation that the competition could be shifted to avoid a clash with India’s general elections, which are expected to take place around April and May, when the tournament is scheduled to take place.
The 2009 league was moved to South Africa to accommodate the national polls.
“The IPL governing council will meet at the end of this month to decide the future of the tournament. The date of the meeting is yet to be finalised,” Biswal said. “We have heard that the elections might be held around that time. Beyond that, we don’t have to say anything at the moment.”
