IOC signs off sports programme for LA’s Olympic Games

Skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing have been formally confirmed for their third consecutive summer Olympic Games as the International Olympic Committee today (Thursday) approved the sports programme for the 2028 Games in Los Angeles, provisionally minus boxing, modern pentathlon and weightlifting.

The initial sports programme for LA28 was signed off by the IOC Session, which gathered in Beijing ahead of the start of the 2022 Winter Olympics. Along with skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing, the 28-sport programme currently includes: aquatics, archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, canoe, cycling, equestrian, fencing, football, golf, gymnastics, handball, hockey, judo, rowing, rugby, sailing, shooting, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, triathlon, volleyball and wrestling.
