The International Fencing Federation (FIE) has awarded Egypt hosting rights for the 2021 edition of its Senior World Championships.

The FIE made the announcement during its Annual Congress meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland, where a call for candidatures for the 2022 edition was also launched.

Egypt has staged the World Championships once before, with Cairo hosting in 1949. The country is also scheduled to host the Junior World Championships in 2021.

The 2019 World Championships were held in the Hungarian capital of Budapest.

The FIE’s Annual Congress also saw Cape Verde, Kenya, Oman and Papua New Guinea approved as new member federations, bringing the total number to 157 worldwide.
