Inter Miami’s inaugural Major League Soccer home game will be against the Los Angeles Galaxy on March 14, 2020, giving David Beckham a reunion against his former team.

The game is scheduled to kick off at 2.30pm ET at Inter Miami’s under-construction 19,000-seater Fort Lauderdale Stadium, which is on the site of the former Lockhart Stadium.

Former Manchester United, England and LA Galaxy midfielder Beckham is a minority owner in Inter Miami, alongside businessmen Jorge and Jose Mas, Marcelo Claure and Masayoshi Son.

The expansion team remains in talks with the City of Miami about constructing a 25,000-seat venue as part of a $1bn development of Melreese Country Club, dubbed Miami Freedom Park. The Fort Lauderdale Stadium will be the team’s venue for at least two years, a situation which has “frustrated” MLS commissioner Don Garber.

The full 2020 MLS schedule will be announced at a later date.
