Lega Serie A, the governing body of the top division of Italian club football, has joined forces with the Infront agency to officially launch its eSerie A esports competition.
Infront will serve as the exclusive media, marketing and digital partner of the eSerie A. Infront’s remit will cover the organisation of the event alongside Italian esports company PG Esport.
The tournament will see Italian gamers compete in EA Sports’ Fifa 20 title, exclusively on Sony’s PlayStation 4.
Infront will deliver 15 days of broadcast production of all events and matches held in the eSerie A. Coverage will be distributed across Lega Serie A’s digital platforms, while Infront’s Milan studios will also stage the group and playoff stages of the competition.
Coverage will also be streamed on YouTube and Twitch, with a dedicated live feed to be set up for broadcasters.
The league will comprise an online knockout tournament that will be open to all amateur players seeking to qualify for the main championship. The tournament will feature a group stage, play-off and grand final featuring the top eight players, with amateurs who qualify to be selected by one of the 17 participating Serie A clubs.
The first of four online tournaments will begin on February 10.
As part of Infront’s five-year international media rights agreement with the Scottish Professional Football League (from 2020-21 to 2024-25), the agency will also develop an esports project with a rights-holder. The agency is to work with the SPFL on the development of a dedicated esports league.
The eSerie A also strengthens Infront’s presence on the esports scene, with the agency having already collaborated with Italian outfit Team Mkers, France’s Team Vitality and Fokus Clan in Germany.
