Infantino confirms Fifa re-election bid, backs away from biennial World Cup vision

Gianni Infantino has today (Thursday) confirmed he will stand for re-election as Fifa president while backtracking on plans to make the World Cup a biennial tournament.

Infantino was speaking as the Fifa Congress took place in Doha ahead of tomorrow’s draw for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. “I want to tell you that I will be standing for re-election next year,” he said.
