Indonesia has stepped up its bid plans for the 2032 summer Olympics and Paralympics, with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) ordering the formation of a special committee to oversee the effort, while Vancouver City Council has voted to delay debate over whether it should pursue the 2030 winter Games.

The Olympics were on the agenda as Jokowi led a virtual cabinet meeting in Jakarta yesterday (Wednesday). Indonesia has been at the forefront of the race for the 2032 Games, with Jakarta in February 2019 moving quickly to become the first city to declare its candidacy off the back of its hosting of the 2018 Asian Games, which took place in Jakarta and Palembang.
