The “Cricket Card” – the latest in a series of affinity cards introduced by Citibank – was unveiled by Ashoke Dutt, Global Consumer Bank Head – Citibank India and Venkat Sundaram, manager of the Indian cricket team on the eve of the finals of the Independence Cup tournament in Colombo, officials said.
India meets Sri Lanka in the finals of the triangular cricket tournament which also included New Zealand.
Targeted primarily at cricket lovers and ethusiasts, Citibank will automatically donate a percentage of the retail transaction on behalf of the customers to a special fund aimed at promoting cricket in India, they said.
The fund will be managed by a committee of eminent cricketers nominated by BCCI and Citibank. The percentage and in which way the funds will be used has not been decided yet, officials said.
“For millions of fans in India, cricket is much more than just a sport – it is a way of life, and it gives us great pride to support its development by launching India’s Official Cricket Affinity Card under the auspices of BCCI,” said Dutt.
The card carries the logo of Citibank, BCCI and Visa and is valued only in India and Nepal.
