The Hong Kong Football Association (HKFA) has announced it is seeking to implement Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in the Hong Kong Premier League from the start of the 2023-24 season.

The HKFA said it will “purchase, rent and hire a number of software and services” to conduct trials in selected league and cup matches during the forthcoming 2022-23 season. The technology, as is the case in other leagues and cup competitions, will focus on four areas of officiating: decisions to allow or disallow goals; penalty decisions; direct red card decisions; and identifying mistaken identity in awarding a red or yellow card.
