Hong Kong officials are confident the World Rugby Sevens Series will return to Hong Kong Stadium later this year despite the event being cancelled or postponed five times since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The seven-a-side rugby series visited Hong Kong annually between 1976 and 2019 but the last two editions – in 2020 and 2021 – were cancelled due to the pandemic. Last year, the Hong Kong Rugby Union pushed back the next edition from April to November because of ongoing public health restrictions in Hong Kong.
