Grand Prix moved to avoid soccer clash

“The organisers of the French Grand Prix have confirmed that their 2002 fixture has been moved to July 21 in order to avoid clashing with the World Cup finals,” said the governing FIA.

France are the world champions and defend their title in the tournament which starts in Japan and South Korea on May 31 and runs to June 30.

This year’s French Grand Prix at Magny-Cours was held on July 1. The end of July slot was occupied by Hockenheim in Germany this year.

The FIA said the draft calendar for 2002 was due to be submitted to its World Motor Sport Council for approval on October 3.
