Four cities to compete for 2019 European Athletics Indoor Championships

The European Athletics governing body has announced that four cities have submitted bids to stage the 2019 edition of its Indoor Championships.

Apeldoorn in the Netherlands, the Scottish city of Glasgow, Minsk in Belarus and Torun in Poland all filed bidding documents by the deadline. European Athletics will undertake evaluation site visits throughout February and March, before the body’s Evaluation Committee files a report to the European Athletics Council.

Biddings parties that meet certain requirements during the evaluation stage will then make presentations to the Council, before members vote on which city will stage the 2019 Championships during a meeting in the Dutch city of Amsterdam on April 23.

The most recent edition of the European Indoor Championships took place last year from March 5-8 in the Czech capital of Prague. Russia topped the medal table with a total of eight medals, six of which were gold, while Great Britain accumulated the most medals, winning a total of nine during the Championships.

The 2017 Championships are scheduled to be staged in the Serbian capital of Belgrade.
