Florida Cup adds GOL airline to portfolio for 2020 event

Orlando-based football tournament the Florida Cup has added Brazilian airline GOL Linhas Aéreas (GOL) to its sponsorship portfolio.

The company joins theme park Universal Orlando Resort, MLS club Orlando City SC and builder Lennar Homes as main sponsors for the 2020 edition of the event.

Ricardo Villar, chief executive of the Florida Cup, explained how the deals aligned with longer-term sporting ambitions within Orlando. He said:  “Together, we will work not only to show the Florida Cup as an event that is already part of the international football calendar, but also to solidify Orlando as a great destination for international football, as the city competes to be one of the venues for the 2026 World Cup.”

Of the other agreements, the deal with Universal Orlando Resort runs into its third year and will involve multiple activations. This includes the Florida Cup Fan Fest which will take place at the resort, as will the Florida Cup Legends Cup tournament and other fan engagement events.

Marcos Barros, vice president of sales and marketing for Universal Orlando Resort in Latin America, said: ‘’Florida Cup has become a relevant platform in some of our major international markets and we expect this partnership to grow further.”

Orlando City SC also sponsors the tournament for a third successive year. The club’s Exploria Stadium will host its matches which will run for January 13 to January 20 next year and feature Corinthians, Palmeiras, Atletico Nacional and Spartak Moscow.
