Fina, the global governing body of aquatic sports, has today (Monday) announced that Budapest will step in to ensure a World Championships takes place as intended this year, with the move meaning its flagship event is now scheduled to be held on an annual basis until 2025.

The World Championships have been held on a biennial basis since 2001, but the calendar upheaval caused by the Covid-19 pandemic has led to the agreement announced between Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Fina president Husain Al-Musallam.
