Fifa eClub World Cup heads to Milan

The 2020 edition of the Fifa eClub World Cup will take place in the Italian city of Milan, it has been announced today (Wednesday).

It will mark the first time that Milan has hosted the esports event. The tournament, which pits gamers against one another in EA Sports’ FIFA 20 title, will take place from February 7-9.

The event will be contested by 24 teams, who have secured their berths following five rounds of online qualification matches. Three Italian teams – Mkers, AS Roma and Team QLASH – will be among those competing.

Teams from Mexico, Germany, England, Spain, France, Japan, USA and other countries have also qualified for the event, with players to include current Xbox and PlayStation world-ranking leaders Donovan ‘Tekkz’ Hunt (Fnatic), Diego ‘Crazy’ Campagnani (Team QLASH) and 2017 world champion Spencer ‘Gorilla’ Ealing (NEO).

Adrian Rölli, head of eFootball at Fifa, said: “We are proud that over 190 teams from all over the world took part in this season’s qualification and we are beyond excited to find the world’s best team out of the top-class field of participating teams.

“The introduction of team-based 2v2 matches showed a new level of excitement and competitiveness at last year’s event and will undoubtedly spark huge emotions at this year’s tournament as well.”

The 2019 event was held in London and won by KiNG eSports. The draw for this year’s tournament will take place on January 21.
