FIFA bans nine match-fixing footballers

FIFA has suspended eight Estonian footballers and has handed a lifetime ban to a Lebanese player following their involvement in match-fixing.

The Estonian players received a one-year ban from worldwide footballing activities for allegedly receiving money from a bookmaker for matches in the country’s top-flight Meistriliiga league and the Estonian Cup.

The footballers are also temporarily banned for a year by the Estonian Football Association while more evidence is being gathered.

Meanwhile, the unnamed Lebanese player incurred a lifetime ban for actions relating to betting and corruption during national team and AFC (Asian Football Confederation) Cup games.
