The International Basketball Federation (Fiba) has appointed London-based agency The Sports Consultancy to support its search for a host for its 2019 World Cup.
The Sports Consultancy will work alongside Fiba to develop the bidding materials and process for the federation’s showpiece international event. The bid process for the 2019 World Cup will launch next month.
Fiba director of events Predrag Bogosavlijev revealed the governing body opted to enter into the partnership on the back of a successful collaboration on its youth events.
He said: “We have been working with The Sports Consultancy over the last year reviewing how, as an international federation, we manage our bid processes for youth events. We found our cooperation with The Sports Consultancy highly beneficial and fully in line with our needs. Their team of highly professional consultants have proven experience in this sector. Extending this consultancy to our premium event, the FIBA Basketball World Cup, is the next phase.”
Boasting considerable experience in host city tendering, The Sports Consultancy secured Singapore as the location to stage the WTA Championship, the end of season tournament for the women’s tennis tour, and compiled the itinerary for the 12th and 13th editions of the Volvo Ocean Race global sailing event.
Spain is the host nation for the 17th edition of the World Cup, which takes place from August 30 to September 14. Madrid will be the main venue for the tournament.
