The International Basketball Federation (Fiba) has stepped up its sanctions against Russia and Belarus amid the war in Ukraine by removing the two nations from the men’s 2023 World Cup.
The latest move by Fiba’s Executive Committee comes after an initial decision taken in March to not allow Russian teams and officials to participate in its competitions. The Executive Committee has now made further decisions in regard to the Russian Basketball Federation (RBF) and the Belarusian Basketball Federation (BBF) for competitions that will take place over the coming months.
