FanDuel and The Gist have completed a renewal agreement that keeps the fast-growing, female-led sports media group as the official sportsbook partner of the gaming giants.
When the deal first began with the 2021 National Football League season, FanDuel offered an exclusive fantasy football welcome contest to The Gist users, driving large-scale increases in fantasy sports interest and brand affinity for FanDuel
Both groups will now work together in an effort to make sports betting more accessible, and inclusive, particularly to women. More specifically, the agreement will see FanDuel Sportsbook odds appear in The Gist's newsletter, which is published four times a week, in addition to an NFL "Game of the Week" spotlight and betting previews for the National Basketball Association and Women’s World Cup.
FanDuel is also set to feature regularly in the newsletters during the NFL regular season and playoffs through editorial content sponsorship.
The Gist - based in Toronto, Canada - was formed three years ago by a trio of college roommates with the aim of developing a sports media brand tailored to both casual and devout fans who do not necessarily identify with hyper-masculine tropes common in conventional sports media.
The FanDuel partnership, as a result, will function as a means to easing The Gist following, known as Gisters, into the sports betting scene in an informed and welcoming way.Another planned activation in the new contract term is the development of a betting education program, one in which the Gist editorial team will use the FanDuel sportsbook to provide and guides to beginning gamblers. Bettors entering FanDuel through The Gist will also receive special promotions and odds boosts.
“We are in the second year of our partnership with The Gist and research showed that many Gisters have expressed intimidation when trying to get involved in sports betting,” said FanDuel Group chief executive Amy Howe. “We know that Gisters are passionate sports fans, and sports betting has the ability to enhance sports fandom and foster community. Our goal is to lower the barriers and bring the experience of sports betting to everyone.”For FanDuel, the renewal with The Gist closely follows the debut of its new media venture, FanDuel TV.
