Trevor East, the experienced sports media executive and former chairman of the Pitch International agency, has joined the board of directors at English football side Plymouth Argyle.
Plymouth, who compete in the fourth-tier League Two, have announced the addition of East to the board, which now comprises eight members, including chairman Simon Hallett and chief executive Andrew Parkinson.
East stepped down as executive chairman of Pitch in September 2018 and was replaced by Oli Slipper (pictured), co-founder of international digital media rights group Perform.
East remains a partner and board member at Pitch.
Along with 13 years as chairman at Pitch, East’s industry’s experience includes being head of ITV Sport and deputy managing director of Sky Sports, with responsibility for rights acquisitions and relationships with sports rights-holders.
East, who began his career as a trainee producer at ITV in 1972, has owned a home in North Cornwall, near Plymouth, for 17 years and recently relocated from London.
He described Plymouth Argyle as “a great club with terrific support”, adding, “the potential is huge, and an infrastructure is being put in place to help [manager] Ryan [Lowe] and his team deliver the success Argyle deserves.”
East continued: “The immediate aim is very clear: to get Argyle back in the Championship. I will do everything I can to help Simon, Andrew and the board fulfil everyone’s ambitions.”
Pitch is heavily involved in the commercialisation of English football and sells the international broadcast rights to the English Football League in a five-season deal, from 2017-18 to 2021-22.
