European Athletics softens stance on future participation at European Championships

Athletics’ European governing body has said that it still “strongly believes” in the value of a multi-sports European Championships as it opens the door for its possible participation in four years’ time, despite having recently announced a split from the event.

Having played a key part in the inaugural multi-sports championships in Berlin and Glasgow in 2018, the athletics competition began this morning in Munich but with European Athletics having stated in June that the 2026 European Athletics Championships would revert to a standalone event.
