Luxury goods brand Louis Vuitton has signed a partnership deal with video games publisher Riot Games for its League of Legends esports platform.

Under the deal, the French fashion house will develop a unique travel case for the League of Legends World Championship trophy – the Summoner’s Cup.

The brand has previously designed similar products for the Fifa World Cup, the Rugby World Cup and America’s Cup. This will represent the first venture of its kind in the world of esports.

The partnership will also extend to the creation of Champion Skins – the colours worn by the game characters – and a capsule collection of Louis Vuitton-designed skins and game characters.

The deal comes ahead of this year’s World Championship, which begins on October 2. A Riot Games representative confirmed to SportBusiness that it will run through to the 2020 instalment of the event.

Michael Burke, chairman and chief executive of Louis Vuitton said: “Louis Vuitton has long been associated with the world’s most coveted trophies, and here we are today, alongside the Summoner’s Cup. We are thrilled to be part of such an iconic event.”

The deal adds to League of Legends growing portfolio of sponsors. This includes agreements with Mastercard, Pringles and Honda.
