ESPN postpones inaugural Austin X Games

ESPN has postponed its Austin X Games originally due to take place in May next year, following the scrapping of its international events last month.

Next year’s X Games in Tignes (France), Foz Do Iguaçu (Brazil), Barcelona and Munich were cancelled to focus organisation and finance on the remaining winter event in Aspen on January 23-26 and the debut of X Games Austin.

The dates for Austin have been changed from May 15-18 to June 5-8 to allow for a more favourable broadcast window on ESPN, according to an ESPN spokesperson. In May, X Games would have had difficulty getting premium broadcast times on ESPN due its showing of the NBA (National Basketball Association) early round play-offs.

The three-week change may mean a difference in temperature in Austin. High temperatures in Austin in May are around 30 degrees, while average temperatures in June are slightly higher with the month being the rainiest on average in that part of Texas.
