Equatorial Guinea banned from 2019 Women’s World Cup

Equatorial Guinea has been banned from the 2019 Fifa Women’s World Cup after the disciplinary committee of football’s global governing body found that forged and falsified documents had been used to include two players.

The ineligible players featured during the preliminary competition of the women’s Olympic football tournament at the Rio 2016 summer Olympic Games.

The Equatorial Guinea Football Association was also handed a fine of CHF100,000 (€87,000/$102,000).

The disciplinary committee, which imposed initial sanctions in April 2016 before undertaking further investigations, listed a total 10 players who featured in the competition, but were apparently ineligible.
