European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR) has reconfirmed the suspension of its Champions Cup and Challenge Cup club competitions, with the upcoming semi-finals and finals matches having been postponed.

ECPR announced last week that the tournaments’ quarter-final matches would not be played on the scheduled dates of April 3-5 amid growing public health concerns surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic.

The decision has now been taken to suspend the semi-finals, which had been due to take place from May 1-3, and the finals, which were scheduled for Marseille’s Stade Vélodrome on the weekend of May 22-23.

EPCR said its board is abiding by the official directives and recommendations of the authorities in the relevant territories to restrict the spread of Covid-19. The governing body will work with leagues and unions to restructure the conclusion of its season as part of a wider rescheduling of the remainder of the European season.

EPCR said it remains committed to completing the Champions Cup and Challenge Cup campaigns and hopes to reschedule all unplayed matches. Tickets already purchased for the Marseille finals will be valid for the new dates when announced and fans unable to attend on the new dates will be entitled to a refund.
