International sports broadcaster Eleven Sports has acquired exclusive rights in Italy to the Superliga, the top division of Argentinian club football.
The agreement was signed in time for the sixth round of the 2019-20 season, with Eleven commencing coverage on its OTT platform with three matches yesterday (Sunday).
These included Gimnasia’s 2-1 defeat to Racing Club, Rosario Central’s 1-1 draw with Newell’s and Boca Juniors’ 1-0 win over Estudiantes.
The Superliga has gained extra interest for Italian viewers with Diego Maradona’s recent appointment as Gimnasia coach, while AS Roma legend and former Italy international midfielder Daniele De Rossi signed for Boca in the summer.
Superliga matches will be included in Eleven’s basic package, which also includes all matches in domestic football league Serie C and men’s club volleyball competition the SuperLega.
Mattia Baldassarre, managing director of Eleven Sports, said: “The acquisition of the rights of the Argentine Superliga, after the confirmation of the Serie C and the exclusivity for the matches of Palermo and Foggia, once again highlights our desire to grow and offer our users an increasingly rich and varied schedule.”
