Video games publisher Electronic Arts has unveiled a series of enhancements to the EA Sports Fifa 23 Global Series, including the return to in-person competition for the first time since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic and the introduction of the inaugural 2v2 EA Sports Cup.
As part of the invite-only EA Sports Cup, players representing the world’s top esports organizations and professional football clubs will compete in 2v2 competition through three months of fixtures starting October 17.
It culminates January 16-21 with the crowning of a champion and determination on which two teams will advance to the FIFAe Club World Cup 2023.
Participants will include the likes of Manchester City Esports, Paris Saint-Germain Esports, Fnatic, Complexity Gaming, and more.
In April 2023, the EA Sports Fifa 23 Global Series mid-season major will will be held as an in-person event in London, England, with further details to be announced.
"This is confidently the biggest year in franchise history," declared Sam Turkbas, EA Sports Fifa Esports commissioner.
EA Sports recently announced it would be inserting popular fictional football club manager Ted Lasso into FIFA 23 marking the latest addition to the company’s flagship football title.Lasso, portrayed by Jason Sudeikis on the eponymous Apple TV+ streaming series, will be available as a selectable manager of AFC Richmond, the English football club he oversees, in the game’s career mode. AFC Richmond will also be available in a variety of game modes, and club-related content such as kits and manager items and the Nelson Road stadium can be unlocked.
