DAZN’s Rushton on monetising Serie A deal, OTT ‘tipping point’ and work with telcos

DAZN co-chief executive James Rushton

DAZN Group, the global sports subscription service and media company, will make money on its investment in domestic Serie A rights, according to co-chief executive James Rushton, who claims that Italy is reaching the ‘tipping point’ of a switch from linear pay television to over-the-top streaming.

Having last week finally secured the necessary backing of clubs for its rights deal worth €840m ($987m) per season for seven exclusive fixtures per matchweek and co-exclusive rights to three matches, DAZN has signified that it will end the distribution of its DAZN1 linear channel on the platform of pay-television broadcaster Sky Italia.
