The International Tennis Federation has confirmed that Davis Cup matches are set to be played over a maximum of three sets rather than five in the future.
The ITF’s board of directors in Indian Wells backed the move to the best-of-three format in the men’s national team competition at a meeting in Indian Wells, with other reforms to the Fed Cup women’s tournament also approved.
“Further discussions on the implementation of best-of-three-sets matches across either two or three days are continuing with all stakeholders,” the ITF said.
The recommendations will be put to a vote at the ITF's annual meeting in Vietnam in August.
Last September, the ITF announced plans to introduce fixed host cities for future Davis Cup and Fed Cup finals.
