The International Basketball Federation (Fiba) has decided upon the dates for the 2023 edition of the Fiba Basketball World Cup, which will be staged in Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines.
Fiba said today that its flagship event would take place from August 25 to September 10, 2023.
The dates were decided by Fiba’s central board following consultation with the host nations and a recommendation by FIiba’s competitions commission.
The tournament is being staged in more than one country for the first time.
All three countries will stage group matches during the 32-team tournament before the final phase is held in Manila, the Philippine capital.
At the start of the year, Fiba board member Richard Carrión was named chairman of the board of the tournament’s management committee.
In March, Fiba selected Australia as the host nation for the 2022 Fiba Women’s basketball World Cup. The tournament will take place in the city of Sydney over ten days in September and October 2022.
