The Czech Republic has been awarded hosting rights to the 2021 World Orienteering Championships.
The city of Mladá Boleslav will host the event. The International Orienteering Federation (IOF) made the announcement at its Presidents’ Conference.
The Czech Republic also staged the event in 2008, with Czechoslovakia having played host in 1972 and 1991.
This year’s World Championships are currently ongoing in Tartu, Estonia. The event got underway on July 1 and concludes tomorrow (Friday).
The 2018 event will be held in the Latvian capital of Riga, with Østfold in Norway to play host in 2019. The 2020 edition will be staged in Vejle and Kolding in Denmark before the event travels to Mladá Boleslav the following year.
The Czech city of Jeseník was also awarded hosting rights for the 2020 edition of the World MTB (Mountain Bike) Orienteering Championships.
In 2020, the Junior World Orienteering Championships will be held in Turkey, while the World Masters Orienteering Championships will be staged in Slovakia. Germany will host the 2019 World Masters MTB Orienteering Championships.
