Cricket South Africa (CSA) has defended its decision to forfeit the forthcoming one-day series against Australia despite jeopardising the country’s chances of securing direct qualification to the 2023 Cricket World Cup.

Earlier today (Wednesday), CSA announced that South Africa will not contest the three-match series, which was due to be held from January 12 to 17, in order to ensure the availability of its star players for the inaugural edition of the T20 franchise competition being organised by CSA and pay-television operator SuperSport.
