Copa Centroamericana to return to Panama

The Central American Football Union (UNCAF) has awarded hosting rights for the 2017 Copa Centroamericana national team tournament to Panama.

Central America’s southern-most nation will stage the event for the third time, with the country having previously hosted the tournament in 2003 and 2011.

The 2017 edition will also serve as a qualifying event for the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football’s (Concacaf) Gold Cup and will be held from January 17-28.

The 14th Copa Centroamericana will return to Central America after its previous edition was held in the US cities of Washington D.C., Dallas, Los Angeles and Houston in 2014. Costa Rica (pictured) lifted a record eighth trophy, defeating Guatemala 2-1 in the final at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
